STEP “SUPPORTING TALENT TO EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMME

What is it?
STEP is a Transfer of Innovation project that aims to the development of transnational, European competencies for vocational mentors and teachers in the non-formal learning sector (NFLS) in the creative industries with a particular emphasis on how mentors can support young disadvantaged people to achieve professional progress (make the ‘STEP’) in to the fields of creative arts and become mentors and support workers in the field themselves.

Which means:
STEP will provide a basis for a common European framework of competences for vocational mentors and teachers in the NFLS in the creative field regarding providing support to young disadvantaged people to achieve professional progress. The overall aim is to enhance their personal development, to acquire the skills and knowledge to enter the labour market and potentially become mentors and trainers themselves.

How?
The common European framework of competences will incorporate competencies, knowledge requirements and learning methods in relation to:
• Creative and cultural field (art form, artistic occupation)
• Improving own learning
• Communication skills (including ICT)/ expression
• Problem solving
• Working with others / teambuilding / networking
• Understanding youth
• Diversity, equality, respect / awareness of language
• Knowledge of society, the law
• Professional ethics / values, responsibility, knowing boundaries

Who could interest?
STEP addresses to supporting young disadvantaged people who are presently participating in training in non formal and informal learning environments in the cultural and creative industries. STEP operates in the creative industries, including music, drama, visual arts, media production and design. So everyone involved as a mentor/tutor in such a filed could use the developed methodology regarding the provision of support to young disadvantaged people to achieve professional progress.

The program is co funded by the European Union within the Leonardo da Vinci program.
